Fashion Moda, South Bronx - 1992

Fashion Moda ’92
It had been 8 years since I first started exhibiting with Fashion Moda, in the South Bronx. I participated annually in group exhibits until my New York departure in the Fall of 1987. Over the years, 1987-1992, the visual arts were hit hard, and money was difficult. Fashion Moda lost its lease, and closed its doors. The City gave an abandoned building to Fashion Moda, and a re-surge was attempted. I exhibited in the remanence of a building then being called the New Fashion Moda. Abandoned was the right word. I was coming from Florida to an exhibition space I had not seen, for another exhibit in the South Bronx. Did I have a surprise coming? The roof was collapsed, and the place was a major disaster. Me, I painted every inch of every wall, and made an installation in the middle of the room, where the hole in the roof was. I even painted a mural on the outside of the pull-down gate, on the front of the building. I was told I could paint anywhere, and I painted everywhere! It was probably the largest installation I've ever done, reminiscent of the Post Office loading bay, in Soho.
