"Tulips"

Italian Tulips Milano 1998
"Sometimes fate controls our lives more than we think." R.V. 1999
During my stay in Milan in the summer of 1998, I took a trip to London. I was heading to Ireland but the rainy weather made me turn around and go back to Milan’s clear skies. I had planned to be gone for a week, while a photo shoot for a magazine was being shot in the bedroom of my Milan loft. When I returned to Milan, being gone only 3 days, the walls of my bedroom were painted pink, with the beginning pattern of little tiny flowers, neatly placed in a row. It reminded me of Peptobismal, wel, of a room I would never sleep in. The next morning the wall artist arrived. We immediately became friends, and for the next four days, I helped her mix shades of pink, paint rows fo tiny little leaves on flowers, and in general, had a great time. Almost as a gift of appreciation, she began making me different color stained papers, prepared for me to paint on. I immediately began painting fields of Tulips, almost as a personal response to the hundreds of little flowers I had been painting. When I stopped, 3 days later, I had completed 32 water colors.
